Grafting tape is Waterproof, flexible, stretchable, and self-adhesive with gentle stretch. Biodegradable in sunlight, allow gasses to pass through. Excellent moister barrier for grafting and budding. This grafting tape is made by bio-degradable polyethylene stretchable with high tensile strength, which mean you can leave it on your tree without removing it, will not harm your tree. It is also self-adhesive, providing air tight seal, to prevent bacteria or any other disease from getting into grafting area.

Applying Grafting Tape for Optimal Results

Stretch the tape: Before application, gently stretch the grafting tape to activate its self-adhesion properties.

Begin at the base: Start wrapping the tape at the base of the graft area, ensuring full coverage of the union point.

Overlap layers: Overlap each layer of tape by approximately one-third of its width, creating a tight seal.

Ensure tension: Maintain moderate tension while wrapping to establish a firm hold without damaging plant tissues.

Finish securely: Terminate the wrapping above the graft union and press the end of the tape firmly to itself to ensure it does not unravel.

FAQ

Q: What is special about grafting tape?

A: It seals the bud or graft tightly and keeps it moist and secure while allowing air to permeate the wound. It also permits a young and healthy bud to emerge through the tape. Moreover, it is biodegradable in sunlight and eliminates the need for waxing.

Q: How long does grafting tape stay on?

A: Removing Grafting Tape: When your grafts have healed and there is approximately 200 - 500mm of growth on the trees it's time to remove the grafting tape. This will normally be in mid-December to late-January.

Q: Can I use any tape for grafting?

A: Although masking tape has the lowest unit cost, its tendency to unravel is a drawback. Polyethylene film is a readily available and effective grafting wrap. Rolls of polyethylene tape can be obtained through the catalog of some hortictilural supply companies.

Q: Should grafting tape be removed?

A: If plastic tape is not removed from graft union than it tends to rupture or cut across the tissues resulting in formation of gall on its site (taped location).

Q: How to tie off grafting tape?

A: Starting from the bottom, firmly wrap the bud in place with grafting tape (strips of freezer bag or heavy cling film will work too). Make sure you overlap the tape as you wrap it up, over the bud itself, and right up over the top cut. Unless you have self-adhesive grafting tape, tie it off with one or two back hitches.

Q: Does grafting tape breathe?

A: WATER-PROOFING: The film has a wax content to keep it waterproof, so the bud or graft will not dehydrate. Air can pass through the permeable tape allowing the bud to breathe.

Q: When to remove grafting tape on apple trees?

A: Six to eight weeks after the grafts begin to grow, cut the tape or film on two sides of the stock away from the grafts. This will allow the tape to eventually peel off, preventing the possibility of girdling.

Q: Is grafting tape biodegradable?

A: As the graft union heals and the plant matures, the tape will naturally break down, leaving no residue behind. Durability: Despite its biodegradable nature, this tape is durable and can withstand exposure to outdoor elements, including rain and sunlight, for an extended period.
